Olympique Lyon vs Nice | Highlights | Ligue 1

  • Les Gones held on for a crucial home win and are now preparing for the biggest match of their season: a showdown against reigning French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with the Ligue 1 top spot on the line.

Olympique Lyonnais Defeat Nice to Stay Atop the Ligue 1 Standings

Olympique Lyonnais secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over OGC Nice on Matchday 7 of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season. Paulo Fonseca’s side came from behind at home and held on with 10 men in the closing minutes to claim three crucial points at the Groupama Stadium.

ŠULC AND TESSMANN LEAD LYON’S COMEBACK

Nice struck first in the 18th minute when Elye Wahi capitalized on a cross from Jonathan Clauss on the right, getting ahead of Clinton Mata to make it 1-0.

Lyon responded in the 33rd minute as Pavel Šulc pounced on a rebound from goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf after a shot by Julien Duranville to level the score.

Just three minutes later, in the 36th minute, Tanner Tessmann headed home a cross from Zachary Athekame to complete Lyon’s comeback.

RED CARD, DISALLOWED GOAL AND A BATTLE FOR TOP SPOT

The hosts’ task became more difficult in the 70th minute when Keito Nakamura was shown a straight red card for a high-footed challenge on Mohamed Abdelmonem.

With a numerical advantage, Nice pushed forward, and Wahi hit the post in the 74th minute. In stoppage time, the Ivorian striker found the net again, but VAR ruled out the goal for offside, allowing Lyon to hold on for the win.

The victory took Lyon to 14 points and sent them to the top of the Ligue 1 standings on goal difference, as part of a five-team group level on points.

Now, Les Gones are preparing for a trip to face Paris Saint-Germain in the next matchday, in a head-to-head clash that could prove decisive in the race for the top spot.
