The Spanish coach explains what makes his time in Paris special and why he wants to keep making history with the French giants.
Luis Enrique will remain at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) until 2030. The Spanish manager explained why he decided to extend his contract, highlighting the trust shown by the club's leadership, his connection with the fans, and his ambition to continue making history with the French giants.
LUIS ENRIQUE AND HIS SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH PARIS
“Paris is different, Paris is special,” Luis Enrique said during a press conference as he explained why he chose to extend his contract with PSG.
“This is the first time in my coaching career that a story has lasted this long. It is not easy to stay at a club for two, three, or four years. You are constantly connected, always concerned about preparing the team and everything that matters to it,” he admitted.
The manager also highlighted the bond he has built with the club and its supporters. “There has been a genuine connection with the fans and the club in Paris.”
“I am a foreigner, but I hope to remain connected to this city for the rest of my life,” added the coach, who joined PSG in 2023.
LUIS CAMPOS' TRUST AND THE PRESSURE TO WIN
Luis Enrique said the trust he received from the very beginning played a decisive role in his decision to continue with the Parisian project.
“Clearly, there is the trust of the club, the president, and Luis Campos. My connection with Luis Campos has been very special since the first days,” he explained.
The Spaniard also acknowledged that signing a contract extension does not mean less pressure.
“I have extended my contract, and now I have even more pressure to prove that I am ready to continue and that I want to help Paris Saint-Germain win many more trophies.”
He also stressed the importance of maintaining ambition. “Our first goal when we arrived was to make history. The desire to keep winning is an essential characteristic at the highest level.”
HIS PHILOSOPHY: WINNING WHILE ENJOYING FOOTBALL
The manager wants PSG to be recognized not only for its results but also for its style of play.
“I would like us to be recognized as a respectful, brave, and ambitious team made up of highly talented players,” he said.
“I think it is important to show children that you can play football and win while enjoying the game. It is also essential for the fans to enjoy watching us,” he added.
Luis Enrique acknowledged that there is still room for improvement. “I am still the same person, with the same mistakes. I am not perfect, and I still make plenty of them. I try to improve every day.”
With his contract running until 2030, the PSG manager remains as ambitious as ever: winning more trophies, developing his players, and strengthening a connection with Paris that, in his own words, he hopes to maintain for the rest of his life.
