AS Monaco Reportedly Closes Deals for Ansu Fati and Paul Pogba in One Week
AS Monaco is close to securing two high-profile signings with the arrivals of Paul Pogba and Ansu Fati, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The club aims to strengthen its squad with key names to compete both in Ligue 1 and the upcoming Champions League, betting on the talent and comeback of two players looking to revive their careers in a competitive environment.
Pogba returns after suspension
Paul Pogba, 2018 World Cup winner with France, is set to join as a free agent on a two-year deal after serving a doping ban that sidelined him since September 2023. At 32, he’s been training on his own in the United States and sees Monaco as the perfect place to get back to form—competitive but with less media pressure. Since there’s no transfer fee involved, this deal represents a strategic opportunity for the Principality club.
Ansu Fati, a new hope
Meanwhile, Ansu Fati is expected to arrive from FC Barcelona on a one-year loan, with an option to buy for around $13.8 million. The 22-year-old forward has had his career hampered by injuries since bursting onto the scene in 2019 as one of Barça’s brightest prospects. After a quiet spell at Brighton in the Premier League, AS Monaco offers him a chance to regain regular minutes and confidence.
This strategy fits the ambitious plan led by CEO Thiago Scuro to build a balanced squad blending youth and experience. Coach Adi Hütter, who guided the team to the Champions League after finishing second in Ligue 1, favors an attacking and dynamic style that could suit both Pogba and Fati well.
With these moves, AS Monaco aims to reestablish itself as a major player in both France and Europe. If both signings go through soon, the message will be clear: the club is ready to compete toe-to-toe with the big teams and leave behind the ups and downs of previous seasons.
