  • OGC Nice and Le Mans FC will have to keep waiting for their first victory of the season. The two teams played out a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Riviera in an open match with chances at both ends, and the visitors even came close to snatching all three points in the closing minutes.

Le Mans came out without fear and quickly found their reward. In the 13th minute, a defensive mistake from the home side created space for Adil Bourabaa, who unleashed an absolute rocket from long range to beat the goalkeeper and give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Nice’s response did not take long. An excellent team move broke through the visiting defense and left Elye Wahi in front of goal. Despite having very little angle to work with, the striker found the finish to equalize and, in the process, score Les Aiglons’ first goal of the Ligue 1 season.

Nice Pushed for the Win, but Le Mans Never Backed Down

The second half followed a similar pattern. Le Mans refused to sit back and simply defend the point, continuing to look for opportunities to attack, while Nice began pushing higher up the pitch knowing they needed a victory in front of their supporters.

That made the match increasingly open.

Les Aiglons had the initiative for long stretches, but they could not find the second goal against a Le Mans side that held firm and also knew how to exploit the spaces left behind by the hosts.

Le Mans Had the Win in the 86th Minute

The best opportunity to break the deadlock ultimately fell to the visitors.

In the 86th minute, a defensive mistake from Youssouf Ndayishimiye left Louis Mafuta almost completely through on goal. The attacker rounded the goalkeeper and appeared to have the winner at his feet, but his effort struck the post.

It was the final big opportunity of a match that ended with the points being shared.

The 1-1 result leaves OGC Nice and Le Mans still searching for their first victory after three matchdays of Ligue 1. Les Aiglons can at least take some encouragement from scoring their first goal of the campaign, while the newly promoted side once again showed that they are ready to compete following their return to the top flight.

Nice will now look for their first victory on Saturday, September 12, when they visit Auxerre at the Stade Abbé-Deschamps. Le Mans, meanwhile, will return to the Stade Marie-Marvingt to host RC Lens on Sunday, September 13, in Matchday 4.
