The World Cup Boosts Anthony Gordon’s Value

The 2026 FIFA World Cup proved to be the perfect stage for Anthony Gordon. Barcelona’s new signing used the tournament to strengthen his international reputation and significantly increase his market value.

According to Transfermarkt’s update published on July 22, the English winger’s valuation rose from €65 million to €80 million.

That figure is already higher than the guaranteed €70 million Barcelona agreed to pay Newcastle for his transfer, meaning the Catalan club can already view the deal as a favorable piece of business.

Gordon Made His Mark for England

The 25-year-old did not need to score a large number of goals to become one of England’s standout players during the tournament.

Gordon provided two assists for Harry Kane in England’s hard-fought victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a result that secured the Three Lions a place in the Round of 16.

His biggest moment came in the semifinal against Argentina, when he opened the scoring and briefly moved England closer to only the second World Cup final in the country’s history.

A Goal That Gave England Hope

Gordon’s goal arrived in the 55th minute and kept England ahead for around half an hour. During that period, it appeared destined to become one of the most important goals in English football since the nation lifted the trophy in 1966.

Argentina eventually completed the comeback through goals from Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez, both assisted by Lionel Messi.

The defeat reduced the historical significance of Gordon’s strike, but it did not prevent his performance from having a positive impact on his reputation and market value.

His Value Increased by €20 Million in Less Than Two Months

When Barcelona officially announced Gordon’s signing on May 29, Transfermarkt valued him at €60 million, a figure that had remained unchanged since December 2025.

In the 54 days that followed, his valuation increased by €20 million to reach its current level of €80 million.

A previous update on June 3 had already raised his value to €65 million, but his performances at the World Cup ultimately accelerated that growth even further.

Barcelona Could End Up Paying Exactly What He Is Now Worth

The agreement between Barcelona and Newcastle includes a guaranteed payment of €70 million, plus another €10 million in potential add-ons.

According to reports in the English media, €5 million of those bonuses are linked to Barcelona winning major trophies such as LaLiga or the Champions League during Gordon’s contract, which runs until 2031.

The deal also reportedly includes an additional €1 million per season if Gordon plays in at least 60% of Barcelona’s matches.

Should every bonus be triggered, the total cost of the transfer would rise to €80 million, exactly the amount Gordon is currently worth.

At just 25 years old, with a strong World Cup behind him and further room to develop, Gordon arrives at Barcelona looking like an investment that has already begun to justify the club’s decision.
