The Incredible Number of Injuries Ahead of the LaLiga Kickoff in Spain
The start of the 2025/26 LaLiga season will be marked by a long list of injuries affecting several key figures from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, and other teams.
Key absences for title contenders
The LaLiga season kicks off this Friday, and several clubs will face the start with incomplete squads due to injuries of varying severity. At Real Madrid, Eduardo Camavinga suffered an ankle sprain and will be out for at least ten days, while Jude Bellingham is recovering from shoulder surgery and Endrick has yet to overcome a hamstring injury, missing several matches, including games against Osasuna, Oviedo, Mallorca, and Real Sociedad.
At Barcelona, Marc-André ter Stegen underwent another back surgery, opening the door for Joan García to be registered, and Robert Lewandowski will also be unavailable due to hamstring discomfort. At Atlético de Madrid, Pablo Barrios is dealing with a muscle injury, and José María Giménez remains in recovery from an issue suffered during the Club World Cup.
Injury wave hits other teams
Athletic Club is having a difficult preseason with setbacks such as Unai Egiluz, operated on for an ACL tear, Oihan Sancet, sidelined with a knee injury, and Unai Gómez, with muscle problems. At Betis, Isco Alarcón suffered a fibula fracture and will be out for an extended period.
Villarreal lost Logan Costa to a torn ACL and Willy Kambwala to a severe muscle injury. At Sevilla, coach Matías Almeyda will be without Joan Jordán due to a herniated disc, in addition to multiple muscle injuries.
Other clubs are also struggling: Abel Ruiz is doubtful for Girona, Iker Benito will miss Osasuna’s opener, and at Rayo Vallecano, Abdul Mumin remains out with a knee ligament injury.
