The Camp Nou Drama Continues as Barcelona Near PSG Clash in the Champions League
The long-awaited return to the Camp Nou faces yet another delay: Barça’s clash with PSG in the Champions League won’t be played at their iconic home.
A Return Postponed Again
FC Barcelona have confirmed that their October 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain will not take place at the Spotify Camp Nou. The stadium remains without the required administrative permits, forcing the relocation of the highly anticipated tie to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, with a capacity of 55,000.
The news is a major disappointment for fans who hoped to return to their iconic stadium after more than a year of renovations. Just a day earlier, Barça had opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Newcastle, fueling hopes of a near return to the Camp Nou.
The Club Statement
“FC Barcelona announces that the second match of the Champions League group stage, scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 at 9 p.m. against Paris Saint-Germain, will be played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys,” the club confirmed in an official statement.
The statement also emphasized that the club continues to work “intensively” to secure the necessary permits, while thanking its members and fans for their understanding and support during “such a complex and exciting process.”

Delays Keep Piling Up
The reopening of the Camp Nou has already been delayed several times. September league matches against Valencia and Getafe were moved to the Estadi Johan Cruyff, although UEFA restrictions meant that stadium could not host European fixtures.
While construction company Limak has completed most of the work, the club still lacks the official completion certificate and municipal license. As a result, Barça will have to play all of their Champions League home matches at Montjuic until the end of the group stage, losing over 27,000 fans per game compared to the Camp Nou.
What’s Next for Barça
The setback represents both a sporting and financial blow, as the club had hoped to mark their homecoming as a turning point in the season. Still, optimism remains that LaLiga matches could return to the Camp Nou by the end of September.
For now, Hansi Flick’s team turns their focus to domestic competition, with a crucial weekend clash against Getafe as they continue their push for the top spots.
