Raúl Asencio Avoids Another Scandal in His Career
Raúl Asencio, a Real Madrid defender, was acquitted in the case involving a sexual video recorded in 2023, while three other former players from the club's youth system accepted one-year prison sentences.
The agreement came after the two young women involved in the case, one of whom was a minor when the events occurred, told the court that they had forgiven all four players.
Raúl Asencio Is Acquitted
The only charge Asencio faced was for disclosure of secrets. According to the case presented before the court, the player had shown a third party a video he received from the other defendants that had allegedly been recorded without the complainants' consent.
The young women's decision to forgive the players brought the charge against the Real Madrid defender to an end, and Asencio was also cleared of having to pay court costs. He apologized to the women involved and publicly expressed his gratitude for their decision.
Before an agreement was reached, prosecutors had sought a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for the player.
Three Other Players Accept One-Year Prison Sentences
The situation was different for Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García, who accepted one-year prison sentences after being convicted of child pornography. Prosecutors had initially sought sentences of four years and seven months for each of them.
However, their prison sentences were suspended on the condition that they do not commit any new offenses over the next two years and complete a sexual-awareness course.
The judge also took into consideration that none of the three had prior criminal records and the measures taken to repair the harm caused.
In addition, they must comply with a two-year restraining order involving the victim who was 16 when the events occurred. They will also be prohibited for three years from working in any profession or occupation involving contact with minors.
