The future of Obed Vargas appears to be increasingly uncertain at Atlético Madrid. With only hours remaining before the European transfer window closes, the Mexican midfielder was once again left out of a squad selected by Diego Simeone, further fueling speculation about a potential departure.
Obed Vargas Heading Toward Atlético Madrid Exit
Mexican midfielder Obed Vargas was once again left out of Atlético Madrid's squad, increasing speculation about a possible move before the transfer window closes.
The Mexico international was not included in Atlético's squad for their match against Sevilla, repeating a situation he had already experienced in previous games against Málaga and Villarreal. His continued absence suggests that, at least for the start of the 2026-27 season, he is not part of Simeone's immediate plans.
Atlético Madrid reportedly do not want to permanently part ways with Vargas. Instead, the club could look for a loan move that would allow the young midfielder to gain valuable playing time, experience and consistency in European football.
The priority would reportedly be to keep Obed Vargas in LaLiga, although opportunities abroad have not been ruled out. Deportivo Alavés, Valencia, Sevilla and Getafe have all been linked with the Mexican, while Dutch side Feyenoord has also emerged as a possible destination.
The lack of playing time and his repeated absences from matchday squads have placed Vargas in a difficult position. With the transfer market entering its final hours, the coming days could be decisive in determining the next step in his career.
For now, one thing seems clear: Obed Vargas does not currently have an immediate place in Diego Simeone's plans. A loan move could therefore become the best solution, allowing the Mexican midfielder to continue his development and gain the competitive minutes needed at this crucial stage of his career.
