Atlético Madrid Accepts Julián Álvarez Sale to Arsenal, but He Rejects It and Waits for Barcelona

  • Atlético Madrid is reportedly willing to negotiate Julián Álvarez’s departure with Arsenal, but the Argentine striker has rejected that option. His priority remains Barcelona.

Atlético Changes Its Stance and Agrees to Negotiate Julián Álvarez’s Departure

The future of Julián Álvarez may have entered a decisive phase. After weeks of uncertainty, Atlético Madrid has reportedly changed its stance and is willing to negotiate the Argentine striker’s departure, although the Spanish club does not want the forward to end up at FC Barcelona.

According to information from Mundo Deportivo, which was also shared by the specialized account AtleticoPlay, Atlético has reportedly accepted that the situation involving its star player has become difficult to maintain. Álvarez’s desire to leave Atlético has reportedly been expressed both publicly and internally, increasing pressure on a club that had previously remained firm in its intention to keep him.

In this scenario, Arsenal emerges as a potential escape route. The English club remains interested in the striker and would be precisely the destination Atlético is willing to negotiate with.

Julián Álvarez Says “No” to Arsenal and Waits for Barcelona

While Atlético searches for a solution that works in its favor, the Argentine striker appears to have a completely different position. According to the reports cited, Álvarez has reportedly rejected the possibility of joining Arsenal because his priority remains playing for Barcelona.

Atlético considers a transfer to Arsenal a reasonable solution. However, the Argentine reportedly does not want to return to England after his time with Manchester City and is waiting for Barcelona to make progress in negotiations.

Even if Atlético manages to negotiate with Arsenal, if Julián does not want to go, the club loses control over the outcome. The transfer would require the player’s consent, and that is where the two positions directly clash.

Additionally, the start of the season has already put the spotlight on the striker’s situation. Diego Simeone confirmed that Álvarez was unavailable for Atlético’s debut against Málaga, explaining that he was not yet in the right physical condition after his extended post-World Cup break. Atlético won 2-0, but the Argentine’s absence once again fueled speculation about his future.

The Barcelona Veto Makes the Situation Even More Complicated

Atlético Madrid remains unwilling to negotiate with Barcelona, while Barça continues to view Julián as one of its top options to strengthen its attack.

The club’s position makes Arsenal its preferred alternative. But if Álvarez only wants Barcelona, any agreement between Atlético and Arsenal could ultimately be meaningless.

The club would also need to find a replacement in a short period of time, and one of the names emerging in this scenario is Viktor Gyökeres, a striker who has reportedly been offered to several clubs and who, according to the information provided, would be an option Simeone would accept.

A Three-Way Battle That Still Has No Winner

Atlético wants to avoid the Argentine ending up in Barcelona at all costs; Arsenal appears to be the destination the Spanish club would be willing to accept; and the player remains determined to wear the Blaugrana shirt.

However, the final decision could ultimately be in the player’s hands. His rejection of Arsenal completely changes the situation because an agreement between two clubs is not enough if the striker does not accept the destination.
