Ter Stegen silences rumors and insists he’ll stay at Barcelona despite possible Joan García arrival
German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen made it clear he’ll be at FC Barcelona next season, despite rumors linking him with a move away due to a possible signing of Joan García, the current Espanyol keeper.
Fully committed to Barça
“I don’t pay attention to rumors, nothing’s changed for me. I know I’ll be in Barcelona next year,” he said while with the German national team, returning after a long injury that kept him off the pitch for about eight months.
The 33-year-old goalie said no one at the club has spoken to him about leaving. “I haven’t had contact with Hansi Flick lately, but from my side, there’s no situation that we need to discuss,” he added.
The possible Joan García signing
Some reports say Barça’s board is considering paying the €25 million release clause for Joan García (24), which might open the door for Ter Stegen to leave, but the German doesn’t see that happening.
“FC Barcelona is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and every season there’s competition for every spot. I’m really excited for the new season because we have a hungry team with even more experience now,” he said confidently. Plus, Ter Stegen knows he needs regular minutes to keep his spot as Germany’s starter under Julian Nagelsmann for upcoming tournaments.
