Mourinho defends Mbappé

Jose Mourinho, coach of Real Madrid, called the controversy surrounding the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé "ridiculous" at the press conference before his team's match against Villarreal, corresponding to matchday 8 of LaLiga EA Sports.

"One thing I promise to the Bernabéu, that when a Real Madrid player does not behave like a Real Madrid player 24 hours a day, when he does not fulfilll his obligations as a player and as a citizen, you will not see that player on the bench, you will not have the opportunity to boo him because he will be at home. Mbappé is going to play, and it's because I am sure he hasn't failed with Real Madrid," he concluded.

"Mbappé has been here, he has had a diagnosis, he has gone to an external consultation because his knee has a history that cannot be forgotten. There was complete agreement between the diagnosis from Real Madrid and the external one. Recovery plan, which you don't need to know in detail, and then we move into the field of problem-solving," he added.

The external controversies

"The real problems we have had in football in general have not been enough for you. First the disco, which was not a disco, was transformed for Paris Fashion Week. Then there was the bicycle in Switzerland, which was a hotel with small houses where each house had a couple of bicycles to go to the common area of this hotel of absolute tranquility, I was already doing the Tour of Switzerland by bicycle," he recalled.

He explained what those "real problems" were: "In recent weeks, I thought I had enough real cases in the world of football, but it seems it wasn't enough. Without cases at Real Madrid, or giant cases like City's, the old story, the difficult situation in my country with Cristiano Ronaldo and his coach... So many cases that could feed your work, but it hasn't been enough. Madrid is Madrid, and there's always something to be gained."

"A player is a player 24 hours a day, I've already said it. Something important, negative, that a football player does in their private life always has some repercussions. Real Madrid players have been exemplary in their professional situation. We have worked here so that they had situations without any doubt regarding their national teams, when to return, when to have some free time. Everyone has complied, he recalled.

Hope at the Bernabéu

He ended with the "hope" that the Bernabéu would be free from all controversies: "This is one of your goals. It's not necessary to be Einstein to understand that the dynamics lead to this. From whom? I prefer not to give (names), I might be wrong. I don't comment on the Bernabéu, I respect it. My hope is that the Bernabéu is capable of being fair, and for me, being fair also means being intelligent, being able to read between the lines, to understand the dynamics, the objectives." EFE
