Barcelona Must Be Furious: Al-Nassr Target Luis Diaz as Cristiano Ronaldo’s Replacement
The current situation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo remains a mystery. The Portuguese star has yet to renew his contract with Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia, and this uncertainty could have a direct impact on FC Barcelona, which is looking to strengthen its attack for the upcoming season.
Bad News for Barcelona: Luis Díaz on Al-Nassr’s Radar
One of Barcelona’s main targets in the transfer market is Luis Díaz, the talented Colombian winger from Liverpool. According to Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo, the club wants to take advantage of Díaz’s skillset to boost its offensive options, particularly on the left wing.
However, British outlet Talk Sport reports that Al-Nassr is also interested in signing Luis Díaz if Cristiano Ronaldo does not renew his contract with the club. The Saudi side would reportedly be willing to offer up to $95 million for the Colombian — a sum that Barcelona would struggle to match due to its current financial constraints.
Luis Díaz is under contract with Liverpool until the 2026-2027 season, and any departure would depend on a convincing offer for both the club and the player.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Uncertain Future in Saudi Arabia
Al-Nassr’s sporting director, Fernando Hierro, recently spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo’s status, stating that the player is under contract until June 30 and that negotiations are ongoing:
"He is under contract with us until June 30. Until then, we are negotiating with him on all fronts, and we hope to reach an agreement so he can continue his journey with us," said Hierro.
The director avoided discussing potential replacements, but interest in Luis Díaz could be directly tied to CR7’s potential departure.
The Club World Cup and Cristiano’s Immediate Future
With the summer transfer window in Saudi Arabia open from June 1 to 10, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether Cristiano Ronaldo will remain in Saudi football or seek a new challenge in Europe or at a Club World Cup 2025 contender.
An Edge for Barcelona?
Despite Al-Nassr’s financial muscle, Barcelona remains hopeful of signing Luis Díaz. The appeal of playing in LaLiga, competing in the Champions League, and joining one of Europe’s historic giants could outweigh a big-money offer from Saudi Arabia.
In addition, Luis Díaz has had a strong season in the Premier League since joining Liverpool from Porto in January 2022, and making the leap to Barcelona would mark an important step in his football career.
