Ronaldo Says Kylian Mbappé Reminds Him of Himself at His Peak During the FIFA World Cup 2026
The Brazilian legend believes the France star possesses the same explosive qualities that made him one of the greatest strikers in football history.
Ronaldo sees a bit of himself in Mbappé
Kylian Mbappé's outstanding start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues to earn admiration from football's biggest names, and now one of the greatest strikers the game has ever seen has added his voice to the conversation.
Ronaldo Nazário, the Brazilian icon and two-time World Cup winner, praised the Real Madrid forward, saying Mbappé's combination of speed, power, and finishing reminds him of the best years of his own legendary career.
The former Brazil star also described the French captain as one of the natural successors to football's greatest legends.
A spectacular World Cup campaign so far
Mbappé has been one of the standout performers of the tournament's group stage.
He opened France's campaign with two goals against Senegal, followed that performance with another brace against Iraq, and although he didn't score against Norway, he registered two assists in another dominant display from Les Bleus.
His performances have firmly placed him among the favorites to win both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball, alongside fellow superstar Lionel Messi.
High praise from a football legend
Speaking to L'Équipe, Ronaldo reserved some of his biggest compliments for the French superstar.
The Brazilian legend said that both Messi and Mbappé are players whose impact goes far beyond statistics, adding that their influence on the game will be remembered long after their careers are over.
Ronaldo also admitted that Mbappé's style of play reminds him of his own prime years, describing the French forward as one of football's true heirs to greatness.
Real Madrid players continue to dominate the tournament
Mbappé's impressive form has also helped Real Madrid become the club with the most goals scored by its players at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Alongside Vinícius Júnior, who has also scored four goals, Madrid's impressive tally has been boosted by contributions from Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler, highlighting the club's remarkable influence on this summer's tournament.
France will now turn its attention to the Round of 32, where Sweden awaits as Didier Deschamps' side continues its pursuit of a third consecutive appearance in the FIFA World Cup Final.
