Rodri to discuss Man City future after the World Cup
After Pep Guardiola, Bernardo Silva and John Stones all called time on their Manchester City careers, Rodri could be next out of the door.
Rodri will "wait until the World Cup is over" before discussing his future at Manchester City.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable career with City, winning four Premier League titles, three EFL Cups, two FA Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup.
His role in City's midfield under Pep Guardiola, as well as his exploits for Spain in their successful Euros campaign, earned him the Ballon d'Or award in 2024.
Since Rodri joined City ahead of the 2019-20 season, they have won 71.5% of games in which the Spaniard has appeared, compared to 62.8% of matches without him.
But Rodri, whose contract expires in June 2027, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid after presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme outlined his desire to bring him to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Those rumours have only gained traction following Guardiola's exit, though Rodri is focused on his World Cup campaign with Spain for the time being.
"We're here to talk about the World Cup," Rodri told reporters during the national team's media day. "In terms of my future, I'll wait until the World Cup is over.
"It's normal, it's a part of football, names of players being linked to particular clubs. I'm focused, I'm captain of the national team. My responsibility is to accept it.
"I'm a leader in the group, my only job is to help Spain win this World Cup. I won't waste time on all that, and after the World Cup, we'll see."
Spain are the Opta supercomputer's favourites to win the World Cup at 16%, and Rodri is delighted to enter the tournament in a "fresh" state.
The midfielder missed the majority of the 2024-25 season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and suffered various problems in 2025-26, but he now feels fit again.
"I'm very happy and excited," Rodri added. "I was just joking that it's the first time I've arrived fresh, and without so many games.
"I've been able to overcome everything. I'm coming in with less rhythm, but fewer matches under my belt."
