Neymar Injured and Doubtful for the World Cup
All of Brazil celebrated Neymar’s call-up for the FIFA World Cup. The return of the Brazilian superstar to the Seleção thrilled millions of fans, and the player himself expressed excitement about playing in what will likely be the final World Cup of his career. However, a new injury now threatens to ruin that dream.
The Brazilian national team confirmed that Neymar is dealing with a Grade 2 calf edema injury, which already caused him to miss the team’s first training session. Although the issue initially did not appear to be serious, the estimated recovery timeline raised concerns within the Brazilian camp.
The Injury Raises Concerns in Brazil
Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar explained that the recovery period could range from two to three weeks, depending on the player’s progress and how he responds to the intensive treatment that has already begun.
This puts his participation at the start of the World Cup in serious doubt. At this point, it is almost certain that Neymar will miss the two pre-tournament friendlies against Panama and Egypt. In addition, everything indicates that he will also be unavailable for Brazil’s World Cup opener against Morocco.
Despite the situation, there is still some optimism within the squad. Depending on how the injury evolves over the next few days, Neymar could return for the second group-stage match against Haiti. However, the medical staff does not want to take any risks, and the top priority is avoiding a relapse that could rule him out of the tournament entirely.

The Goal Is To Have Neymar Ready for the Decisive Matches
For that reason, the most likely scenario is for the player to return during the third group-stage match against Scotland, when he may be in better physical condition.
Rodrigo Lasmar also confirmed that the recovery process is being handled with extreme caution. Neymar is undergoing individualized training sessions, physiotherapy, and intensive treatment in order to speed up recovery without compromising the muscle.
In Brazil, everyone understands that rushing the return of their biggest star is not an option. The memory of previous injuries weighs heavily on the coaching staff, and the priority is ensuring that Neymar is fully fit for the decisive matches.
The Seleção dreams of winning its sixth World Cup title, but to achieve that goal, it needs Neymar healthy. Right now, Brazil’s biggest opponent does not appear to be another national team — but rather time and the recovery process of its No. 10.
