Ghana’s possible lineup to face Colombia in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup
The Black Stars aim to step up for Africa and knock out one of the most entertaining teams in the tournament.
In the battle for the final ticket to the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghana will look to make history at Kansas City Stadium, flying the flag for Africa as they aim to eliminate Colombia, one of the most entertaining sides of the tournament.
Carlos Queiroz, a familiar face to Colombian football and now in charge of the Black Stars, is expected to line up his side in a 4-3-3 formation. Will it work?
THE NAMES
In goal, Benjamin Asare is once again set to start after playing a key role in the group stage, particularly in standout performances against England and Croatia.
He will be protected by Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku, Marvin Senaya and Gideon Mensah in defense.
In midfield, Ghana would rely on the experience of Thomas Partey alongside Caleb Yirenkyi and Kwasi Sibo.
Up front, the attacking trio is expected to feature Kamaldeen Sulemana, Antoine Semenyo and Jordan Ayew.
Derrick Luckassen, who scored against Croatia and was born in the Netherlands, is likely to drop to the bench, with Opoku returning to the starting XI after missing time due to fitness issues following appearances against Panama and England.
One notable absentee is Nice defender Kojo Oppong, who has been ruled out indefinitely due to a muscle injury.
There is also growing anticipation around Iñaki Williams, who only featured as a starter against England. His role in this crucial clash remains uncertain.
A DAY WITH HISTORY
Ghana are aiming to return to the Round of 16 for the first time since South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. Their best-ever World Cup run came in 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals on African soil.
Although they are not currently the strongest African representative among the nine CAF-qualified teams in the knockout stage, Ghana carries continental pride into this decisive match.
So far, only Morocco has reached the Round of 16. Egypt are in a tight battle with Australia, Cape Verde face a daunting task against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, while South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast, DR Congo and Algeria have already been eliminated in the Round of 32.
