Argentina uses social media to break the "Ghanaian Shaman's" curse ahead of its 2026 World Cup clash with Cape Verde
Nana Kwaku Bonsam's prediction that Argentina will be eliminated sparked a massive reaction on social media. Thousands of fans turned to the traditional "anulo mufa" in an attempt to neutralize the supposed curse ahead of the match against Cape Verde.
The prediction that sparked controversy
Argentina has once again become one of the biggest talking points at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although this time it has nothing to do with its performances on the pitch. It all began when Nana Kwaku Bonsam, known as the "Ghanaian Shaman," publicly claimed that La Albiceleste would be eliminated by Cape Verde in the Round of 32.
The controversial figure, who has made similar football-related predictions in the past, declared that "his powers will be with Cape Verde," a statement that quickly went viral among fans and sports media.
"Anulo mufa" returns
The expression is widely used on social media to cancel any prediction, comment, or omen considered bad luck. It became hugely popular during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, accompanying Lionel Messi's Argentina throughout much of its journey to lifting the trophy.
A tradition born on the internet
In Argentina and Uruguay, the word "mufa" refers to bad luck or a bad omen. Over the years, fans began posting "anulo mufa" as a humorous and superstitious way of countering any negative prediction.
