Spain’s young star explains why carrying his country’s expectations is nothing compared to the challenges his family has already overcome
It is hard to imagine what it feels like to carry the weight of an entire national team. For Lamine Yamal, that responsibility comes from more than one place. He wears the No. 10 shirt for Barcelona and also leads one of the favorites to win the 2026 World Cup with Spain.
Despite that, the spotlight is not what defines him. It is not because he takes his role lightly or because he does not understand that he is one of Spain’s difference-makers. His perspective comes from the life he has lived, one that has taught him football is important, but it is still just football.
A different view of pressure
