The Sacrifices a True Xeneize Makes to Watch Boca Juniors in Miami!
One day before Boca Juniors face Benfica in their Club World Cup debut, the streets of Miami were flooded with blue and gold. In a massive "banderazo" (fan rally), hundreds of supporters from across the world gathered to show their love for the club—loud, proud, and full of emotion.
Among them was reporter Andi Bonamino, who captured stories that speak of sacrifice, devotion, and the unshakable bond between Boca and its people.
This Is Once in a Lifetime” — Even on Father’s Day
The rally took place on Father’s Day, but for many fans, the choice was clear.
“My daughter is six. I love her with all my heart… but this is once in a lifetime,” said one visibly moved fan, who had flown in just to witness Boca’s debut on U.S. soil.
Bonamino collected testimony after testimony of fan madness and pure dedication.
“I sold my car. I ride a scooter now… but I’ve got the rest of my life to buy another one. This doesn’t come twice,” said one man, proudly wearing the Boca jersey.
Others went even further.
“I got myself fired. Skipped work, pushed it until they let me go. I just needed the money to get here,” laughed another, without a hint of regret.
And he wasn’t alone:
“I fought with my boss to take the whole month off. He wouldn’t give it to me, so I told him: it’s Boca or nothing.”
Some came in groups, planning as they go.
“We’re staying for a week. Wherever we land, we figure it out. All that matters is being here,” one group repeated in unison.
We’ll Start the Family After This”
The love for Boca interrupted business, work, and even family plans. Some fans left their pizza shops and ice cream parlors in the hands of employees. Others postponed something even bigger.
“My wife’s waiting for me back home. We said we’ll start trying for a baby after this. That’s the promise,” one man shared, laughing and hugging his fellow fans.
