Griezmann: “The Club World Cup in the U.S. Will Be Special"
As Atlético de Madrid prepares for its debut at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, star forward Antoine Griezmann shared his thoughts on the tournament, the challenge of facing PSG, and what it means to play in the United States. The French international expressed his excitement about competing in a global event of this scale and made it clear: Atleti is aiming high.
"Being part of the first edition is an honor"
“What excites me most about this Club World Cup is that it’s the first one,” Griezmann said. “Being part of it is a source of pride — for me and for the club.”
The Atleti forward emphasized that qualifying for the tournament was one of the club’s top goals, and the squad is now fully focused on making a deep run. He also spoke about the cultural and sporting significance of the event:
“It’s a chance to see football from different countries and styles. I’m really looking forward to watching every match — the fans are going to love it in the stadiums.”
Facing PSG in the opener
Atlético’s first match will be against none other than Paris Saint-Germain, one of the tournament favorites. Griezmann isn’t fazed by the challenge:
“We know it won’t be easy, but it’s good to jump straight into the competition against a strong side. We already beat them at the last second in their own stadium. I have full confidence in my teammates.”
As for the team’s mentality heading into the tournament:
“First, we need to focus on the opening three games… then we’ll see what happens.”

Playing in the U.S.: A special connection
Griezmann, a well-known fan of NBA, NFL, and MLB, admitted he's thrilled to play in a country that lives and breathes sports:
“I love American sports. Playing there is going to be fun — but I’m not going as a tourist. I’m excited to play, to win, and to give my best.”
He also praised the welcoming spirit of American fans:
“What I love about American culture is there’s no jealousy. People are supportive, always encouraging — that really draws me in.”
What’s Atleti’s goal?
Griezmann didn’t hesitate when asked about Atlético’s ambitions:
“We dream big. We want to show on the pitch that we can compete with anyone and that we have what it takes to reach the final.”
He also acknowledged the boost they’ll get from their supporters in the U.S.:
“We want to entertain and convince people who aren’t Atleti fans yet to become Atleti fans.”
