Cerro Porteño salvaged a draw (1-1) from Alianza Lima's territory in an intense match of the fourth round of Group A of the Copa Libertadores played at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in the Peruvian capital.

The Paraguayans opened the scoring at 26 minutes through Juan Manuel Iturbe, while experienced Argentine forward Hernán Barcos leveled the score in the 80th minute, both with header shots.

The draw allowed Cerro to reach 5 points out of 12 possible, while the Peruvians remain at the bottom of the standings with 3. This Thursday, the round will be completed when Colo Colo, with 4 points, hosts Fluminense, who leads with 5.

In the 12th minute, Barcos tested goalkeeper Jean Fernandes, and Cerro responded 2 minutes later with a corner kick from Santiago Arzamendia that almost found its way into the goal defended by Ángelo Campos.

At 26 minutes, Fabricio Peralta sent a cross that was headed in by Iturbe to beat Campos and silence the Alianza fans.

The disadvantage bewildered the locals, who looked imprecise and failed in their numerous offensive attempts.

The second half mirrored Alianza's control and Cerro's commitment to fiercely defend the result, with few clear goal opportunities on both ends and generous defensive efforts from the Paraguayan defenders to stop the Alianza attackers.

However, at 80 minutes, Barcos appeared to head in a free kick sent by Sebastián Rodríguez to level the score.
