Hjulmand admits Leverkusen must ‘learn quickly’ after Monchengladbach draw
Kasper Hjulmand has endured a “hectic” start to life at Bayer Leverkusen, but the head coach is optimistic about the future.
Kasper Hjulmand admitted Bayer Leverkusen “must learn quickly” after they fell to a late draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Leverkusen took the lead after 70 minutes through Malik Tillman, but the visitors equalised in the second minute of additional time when Haris Tabakovic scored from a corner.
The 2024 Bundesliga champions have now dropped seven points from winning positions this season, more than any other team in the league.
Following on from their 2-2 draw against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League, Hjulmand has drawn two of his three games in charge after Leverkusen beat Eintracht Frankfurt in his first match.
Their next match comes against St. Pauli on Saturday, and Hjulmand is keen to make the most of a full week of training after a busy start.
“We are not satisfied with the result. We didn’t defend a corner in injury time and that’s the difference. It’s disappointing,” said Hjulmand.
“[It’s been] Hectic. We have made so many changes in the games, I have a much better feeling now for the players. The players, and what they can do together, I have a better feeling for after working with the team for three games.
“We have a full week [of preparation] now. Proper training on Wednesday and Thursday and we have to learn quickly.
“We played seven players [against Monchengladbach] who were not here last season. So it is a team that we are building, but we don’t have the time so we need to do it quickly.”
