Kane discussed his situation after Bayern’s 5-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart in the opening match of the 2026-27 Bundesliga season. The striker told Sky Sport that negotiations began last week and made it clear that he does not expect an immediate resolution, especially considering the importance this agreement could have during the final stage of his career.

At 33 years old, the England captain recognizes that this will probably be the final major contract of his career. For that reason, despite the willingness from both sides, there are still several details that need to be resolved before a final agreement can be reached.

Kane Wants to Stay in Munich

Everything indicates that Kane’s preference is to remain in a Bayern shirt.

The striker himself said that talks are moving in a positive direction, while there is also optimism within the club. Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, recently described negotiations as very harmonious, while CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had already acknowledged that both the player and the club are very interested in reaching an agreement.

According to Sky Sport Germany, one possibility being considered would be to extend his contract until 2029. For now, however, no agreement has been announced and negotiations remain ongoing.

Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the team’s most important players. His original contract was signed for four seasons, meaning he is now entering the final year of that agreement.

A Goalscorer Who Has Dominated the Bundesliga

Since arriving in Germany, Kane has finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer in each of his three seasons. Before the start of this campaign, he had scored 98 goals in just 94 league appearances, in addition to 33 goals in 38 UEFA Champions League matches.

He has also finally managed to turn his goals into trophies. During his time in Munich, the Englishman has already won two Bundesliga titles, one DFB-Pokal and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups.

His performances have also kept him among the important names in the race for the Ballon d’Or, while Bayern consider the striker a fundamental piece in their pursuit of every major trophy under Vincent Kompany.

Bayern Look to Secure Their Number Nine

The contract extension is also not something the club will want to leave unresolved for too long. Without a new agreement, Kane could enter the final months of his contract during the second half of the season, something that could naturally attract interest from other major European clubs.

For now, however, there is no sense of a potential breakdown.

Bayern want Kane to stay, the striker is open to remaining in Germany and negotiations are officially underway.
