Bayer Leverkusen is on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer, with teenage midfielder Kerim Alajbegovic expected to leave the club in a deal worth around €40 million. If finalized, the transfer would set a new Bundesliga record for the highest fee ever received for a teenage player.

The 18-year-old Bosnia international has attracted significant attention after impressing during the FIFA World Cup and a successful loan spell at Red Bull Salzburg last season. Juventus and Chelsea are currently leading the race for his signature, with Chelsea also offering the opportunity to reunite with former Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the proposed transfer is that Alajbegovic has yet to make a Bundesliga appearance for Bayer Leverkusen's first team. Despite that, his performances and long-term potential have convinced Europe's elite clubs that he is worth a record-breaking investment.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes is overseeing negotiations after the player expressed his desire to leave, despite being under contract with Leverkusen until 2031.

Should the €40 million move be completed, Alajbegovic would surpass Renato Sanches' previous Bundesliga teenage transfer record of €35 million, becoming the most expensive teenage player in the league's history.
