Vinícius Jr Fires Back at Diego Simeone With a Memorable Line
While Atlético de Madrid head coach Diego Simeone claimed he did not remember the incident, Vinícius Jr took the controversy to social media and delivered a sharp response.
The Spanish Super Cup semifinal between Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid generated headlines beyond the match itself, as Simeone and Vinícius were involved in a heated exchange that later found a new chapter online.

Vinícius posted a message aimed directly at the Atlético boss, reminding him: “You’ve lost another knockout tie,” accompanied by a series of sad-face emojis.

What Happened Between Vinícius and Simeone in the Super Cup?
During the derby in Saudi Arabia, where Real Madrid advanced to the final against Barcelona, Simeone and Vinícius exchanged words on more than one occasion.
The first incident came before halftime, when an irritated Simeone complained to Dani Carvajal about Vinícius’ behavior and then reportedly aimed a controversial remark at the Brazilian:
“Florentino will get rid of you — remember what I’m telling you.”
The second confrontation occurred late in the match when Vinícius was substituted. As he left the pitch, Simeone allegedly told him to “listen to the boos from the crowd.”
Simeone Downplays the Incident; Xabi Alonso Criticizes the Atlético Coach
Simeone later refused to escalate the situation, insisting everything stays on the pitch. When asked directly about the exchange, he replied:“I don’t remember it. I have a complicated memory.”
On the other hand, Xabi Alonso defended Vinícius and openly criticized Simeone’s conduct.
“I try to be respectful with opposing players and I usually don’t address them. After hearing what was said, I like it even less. It’s not an example of good sportsmanship. Not everything is allowed — there must be respect, and what happens on the pitch has limits,” said the Real Madrid coach.
