The Sanction Owono Could Receive for the Foul Committed Against Jesús de Miguel
The harsh tackle on Jesús de Miguel led to the suspension of the match and the subsequent death of the player
Jesús Lázaro Owono, goalkeeper for Andorra, could be suspended for up to 12 matches following his sending-off this Monday in the closing stages of the CD Tenerife-Andorra match, corresponding to the twelfth matchday of LaLiga Hypermotion (Spanish Segunda División), after "brutally impacting" Tenerife player Jesús de Miguel, if the Competition Committee applies Article 102 of the RFEF Regulations.
The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), regarding the sporting sanction, could apply Article 102, which sets out the sanctions derived from the heading 'Acting violently towards an opponent'.
"Acting violently towards an opponent, in the context of play, causing damaging or injurious consequences that are considered serious, either by their very nature or by the inactivity they could determine, and provided that it does not constitute a more serious offence, shall be sanctioned with a suspension of four to twelve matches," the article states.
The suspension of the match in the 96th minute
Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández, referee of the match between Tenerife and Andorra, sent both teams to the dressing room after the harsh tackle that left the Canarian team's player Jesús de Miguel unconscious on the pitch and "given the seriousness of the events", as he wrote in the match report.
The referee added in the report that he decided to suspend the match in the 96th minute "by mutual agreement between all parties".
"The match was stopped in the 96th minute for medical attention to the home team's number 9 player. Given the seriousness of the events and seeing no improvement in the player's state of health, we withdrew to the dressing rooms," the referee explains in the document, published on the RFEF's official website.
"Once gathered with the captains and delegates of both teams, they informed us that they were not in the right frame of mind to continue the match. Therefore, it was decided to declare the match suspended following the mutual agreement between all parties," he added.
The death of Jesús de Miguel and the referee's report
The Tenerife player, who was admitted to the emergency department of the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands), died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
As a result of the harsh tackle on De Miguel, goalkeeper Jesús Lázaro Owono was sent off "in the 90th minute" for "brutally impacting an opponent with his leg raised, using excessive force while the ball was in dispute," the referee added.
"The player was treated on the pitch, subsequently leaving the field of play on a stretcher. At the close of the report, no medical certificate is presented," the referee states in the report.
The referee notes that "the resumption" of the match "would be by means of a direct free kick in the centre of the field in favour of CD Tenerife, with two minutes left to play (suspended in the 96th minute)." The score at that point was 2-2. EFE
