A deal entering its decisive stage

Arsenal are reportedly close to completing one of the biggest moves of the transfer window after reaching an agreement in principle with Newcastle United for Bruno Guimarães.

According to AS, the Brazilian midfielder would become a new Gunners player if he passes his medical, which is expected to take place later this week.

An investment close to €100 million

Arsenal would pay approximately €87 million guaranteed, equivalent to £75 million, for the Brazilian international.

The deal would also include several add-ons that could take the total cost close to €100 million.

Should the transfer be completed under those terms, Guimarães would become the most expensive player over the age of 28 in Premier League history.

Olympique Lyonnais, the midfielder’s former club, would also receive a percentage of the deal due to the conditions agreed when he was transferred to Newcastle.

Arteta steps in to seal the deal

Mikel Arteta reportedly played a key role in the negotiations by speaking directly with Guimarães to explain the position he would occupy within his system.

The Spanish coach believes the Brazilian could become the missing piece in a midfield that would also feature Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi.

An Arsenal side built to compete for everything

The deal would confirm Arsenal’s intention to remain among the leading contenders for the biggest trophies this season.

The London club will look to defend its Premier League crown and compete for the Champions League once again after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the previous edition’s final.

With Guimarães and the additional reinforcements that could still arrive, Arteta would have a squad built to challenge simultaneously in England and Europe.
