Neymar Once Again Left Out of Ancelotti’s Brazil Squad
The Brazilian national team has announced its squad for the October friendlies against South Korea (October 10 in Seoul) and Japan (October 14 in Tokyo), and once again the big omission is Neymar Jr.. The forward is still recovering and will not be part of the group managed by Carlo Ancelotti, who has recalled Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo, two of his former Real Madrid players.
Neymar still not in the plans
Although there was some expectation that the striker might return during this international break, his physical condition is still not optimal after the injury he suffered at Santos, the club where he continues his rehabilitation. However, his absence does not come as a surprise to the Brazilian Football Confederation, which had already anticipated he would not be available. As a result, the most influential player of the past decade for the Seleção will once again miss the chance to earn minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The 26-man squad reflects Ancelotti’s commitment to maintaining a core group of players competing in European clubs, thereby reducing travel and fatigue. Only two players from Brazil’s domestic league made the list: goalkeeper Hugo Souza (Corinthians) and center-back Fabrício Bruno (Cruzeiro).
Vinícius and Rodrygo back with the Seleção
While Neymar’s absence dominates headlines, the return of Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo is equally noteworthy. The former missed the last qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia due to suspension, while the latter was sidelined with fitness issues. “Rodrygo is very motivated, he’s versatile, and he can play across the entire front line,” explained Ancelotti, making it clear he sees the Madrid forward as a key piece of his squad.
The Italian coach emphasized that these friendlies are not for experiments: “There’s nothing left to invent in football. I need to focus on the team that will play at the World Cup.” Still, he admitted that several injuries limited his options. Among those sidelined are Raphinha, Marquinhos, Alexsandro Ribeiro, Andrey Santos, and goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Brazil’s upcoming challenges
Since taking charge in May, Ancelotti has managed four official qualifiers, with two wins, one draw, and one loss in Bolivia. He now faces his first friendlies in preparation for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
In addition to the Asian fixtures, Brazil will play two matches in November against African sides in Europe, and in March 2026 they will take on top European nations. Neymar’s continued absence raises more questions about his role in this new era for the Seleção, while stars like Vinícius and Rodrygo begin to take on greater responsibility.
