Messi Tried to Avoid Injury That May Deny Him Playing Against the Pumas in the Leagues Cup
The competition loses the most high-profile footballer it had...
Now that Lionel Messi is sidelined due to a muscle injury, his attempt to rest and even face a suspension that kept him out of one match makes even more sense.
The Argentine footballer missed the MLS All-Star Game because the club believed he had a significant workload after participating in the Club World Cup—a decision that sparked much controversy but now seems more than justified.

Before the MLS All-Star Game, Messi had played five matches in 15 days and nine official matches in the last 35 days leading up to the All-Star event. Additionally, he faced 10 matches in the 34 days following the All-Star game.
The most high-profile player in the competition only stayed injury-free for one full match, the 2-1 victory against Atlas, and just 11 minutes more in the game against Necaxa.
What injury does Messi have?
Inter Miami provided information about the physical condition of the number 10 from Argentina, stating that he is suffering from a minor muscle injury.
“Messi underwent medical tests to assess the extent of the muscle discomfort he suffered last night during the Leagues Cup match against Necaxa, which forced him to leave the field,” the statement read.
“The results confirmed a minor muscle injury in his right leg. His return to play will depend on his clinical progress and response to treatment,” they added.
Inter Miami has five points after two matches in the Leagues Cup and will close out the first round this Wednesday with a match against Pumas UNAM, who also have five points.
