Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior called up to Portugal U-17 squad
Cristiano Ronaldo's eldest son, 16, has been named in Portugal's 23-man U-17 squad
Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior, the eldest son of Cristiano Ronaldo, has been named in Portugal's U-17 squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced on Monday.
'Cristianinho', the new U-17 star
'Cristianinho', as he is known in Portugal, is part of the 23-man squad for the home matches against Andorra (November 11), Bulgaria (14) and Serbia (17).
Cristiano's eldest son is 16 years old, plays as a winger and features in the youth ranks of his father's current club, Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
It will be the first time he plays for the Portugal U-17 team, following successful spells with the U-15s — with whom he scored a brace in the final of a tournament his team won — and the U-16s, where he won two more competitions and scored three goals in nine matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo's situation with the senior team
While Cristiano Júnior represents the U-17s, Portugal are still waiting to learn whether Cristiano Ronaldo will be included in the next senior squad, which will be announced next Friday.
Cristiano, 41, abruptly left the last training camp due to disagreements with the head coach, Jorge Jesus, and was handed a 30-day suspension — already served — and a fine of 255 euros.
According to the player in a statement, the reason for the dispute was that Jesus had made him warm up for half an hour and then did not bring him on. EFE
