The Colombian national team made history by reaching the semifinals of the U-20 World Cup for only the second time, after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Spain in Chile. The star of the match was Néiser Villarreal, who scored all three goals for the South Americans and moved to the top of the tournament’s scoring chart.
The first half was dominated by Spain, who controlled possession but lacked finishing power. Despite the efforts of Jan Virgili, Pablo García, and Iker Bravo, the Colombian defense — led by Kener González — stood firm and waited for its moment. As the game progressed, Jordan Barrera began to take control of midfield alongside Canchimbo and Perea, one of the standout players of the night.
The breakthrough came in the 37th minute when Perea and Barrera combined on the right flank, sending a cross that Villarreal finished first-time to make it 1-0. Unfortunately, Barrera, who had been one of the best on the pitch, was forced to leave the match in tears due to injury just before halftime.
A Comeback, a Response, and a Miracle
