Painful Message for Nico Williams on the Mural He Shared With His Brother
Nico Williams transfer to FC Barcelona appears to be imminent news that has sparked discontent among Athletic Club fans, who are already expressing their frustration on the streets of the Basque Country.

In Barakaldo, a mural featuring Nico Williams, his brother Iñaki, and club captain Iker Muniain was recently defaced. Nico face was removed, and a harsh message was left in its place: “Leave or stay, you’ve disrespected us.”
Despite the vandalism, not all fans agree with such actions. One supporter, who filmed the mural with his phone, voiced his disagreement: “I don’t think this is right. Nico is free to make his own decisions about his future.”
A Longstanding Interest from Barcelona
Nico Williams was already linked with Barcelona last summer, but he turned down the offer at the time, choosing instead to play in the Europa League with the club of his heart, Athletic. This year, the team qualified for the Champions League, but it seems likely Nico will play in the competition wearing different colors.
Iñaki Williams Defends His Brother
The Williams family quickly responded to the incident. Through his social media, Iñaki Williams posted a message defending Nico:
“Behind an anonymous act of disrespect, there’s always someone too small to show their face,” wrote the older brother, condemning the vandalism and calling out its cowardice.

Deco Confirms Barça Interest
Barcelona sporting director, Deco, has confirmed the club’s interest in signing the Athletic winger:
“Nico’s move didn’t happen last season, although at the time I prioritized the Dani Olmo operation. Both Nico and other players are now showing interest in coming. If the right conditions are met, we’ll go for it,” he said in an interview with La Vanguardia.
Nico Williams’ transfer to Barça seems closer by the day. In the meantime, tension continues to rise among Athletic fans as they watch one of their brightest young stars prepare to leave.
