Luis Díaz Option at Barcelona Has Been Reactivated After Nico Williams Signing Fell Through.
FC Barcelona are once again looking at Liverpool Colombian winger Luis Díaz after the signing of Nico Williams became complicated. Although the Athletic Club striker had been gaining ground in recent weeks, his agent contractual demands have halted negotiations, reopening the door to the Colombian player, who was already the first option on Deco agenda.
Nico Williams, a Stalled Negotiation
Although Nico Williams (22) became Barça main target after being offered by his entourage, negotiations have cooled. According to Mundo Deportivo, the player's agent is demanding strong registration guarantees to be reflected in the contract. This has blocked the deal, despite the verbal understanding reached regarding salary and length of the contract.
One of the factors that tipped the balance in Nico favor was his age. Unlike Luis Díaz, who is 28, the young Navarrese represented a future bet, both sportingly and financially, as his value could increase in the event of a sale. Furthermore, having a release clause facilitated the operation: Barça only had to pay it without having to negotiate with Athletic.
Luis Díaz remains on the radar
Given the deadlock in the negotiations for Nico, the Blaugrana club has once again considered Luis Díaz, who was never on the radar of Deco, the club's sporting director. The Colombian offers greater tactical versatility, as he can play both on the wing and in the number nine position, and has more experience in high-level competitions.
Although his age represents a long-term handicap, the Liverpool player has a solid international career and has demonstrated his ability in the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool closes the door, for now
The big obstacle is Liverpool, which has so far been inflexible and hasn't opened any channels of negotiation with Barça. Furthermore, the player's agent has failed to exert the necessary pressure to force the English club to open the deal.
Although Luis Díaz desire is to wear the Blaugrana, the operation remains complicated. The Catalan club acknowledges that the player is "under control," but until there is a firm offer or a release clause is paid, nothing is finalized.
Is the Colombian future up in the air?
Luis Díaz future remains uncertain. Barcelona wants him, but Liverpool shows no signs of budging. Meanwhile, another club may enter the scene with a more powerful offer, which could change the Colombian striker's fate.
Deco and Barça know that nothing is finalized until a signature is signed. Therefore, Luis Díaz contract remains open, pending market movements and a possible relaxation by the Anfield club.
