EARNSHAW COMPLETES THE COMEBACK — BUT BAINES WINS IT LATE
The World XI responded through Robert Earnshaw, who pulled one back after a brilliant piece of individual play from Clarence Seedorf. The Dutch legend weaved his way through the defense with his trademark technique before setting up Earnshaw, who finished from close range in the 64th minute.
Just four minutes later, Earnshaw struck again. The forward found space inside the box and calmly finished into the far corner to level the game at 2-2.
Tim Cahill and Rivaldo both started the match but had relatively quiet outings.
With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Phil Jagielka won a penalty with just a minute remaining. Leighton Baines stepped up, but Joe Marsh saved his spot-kick.
However, the former Everton left-back reacted quickest to the rebound and fired the ball into the net to complete the 3-2 victory for Merseyside.
The dramatic late winner sent Goodison Park into celebration.
