How and Where to Watch: Egypt v. Zimbabwe on beIN SPORTS
History weighs heavy, expectations are sky-high, and the margin for error is slim. Egypt begin AFCON knowing there is no room for excuses.
Egypt Begin AFCON With No Room for Mistakes
While Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool travel to Tottenham on Saturday, Mohamed Salah’s Egypt will attempt to earn their stripes two days later in Agadir, Morocco. The start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations arrives with immediate pressure for The Pharaohs.
All the excitement of AFCON 2025 exclusively on beIN Sports, starting December 21.
Egypt face Zimbabwe on Monday, live on beIN SPORTS, and anything less than three points and a convincing performance will not be tolerated by demanding Egyptian supporters.
A Giant Searching for Redemption
For a long time, Egypt were Africa’s dominant footballing nation, lifting a record seven AFCON titles. However, their last triumph dates back to 2010, leaving 15 years of frustration to erase in Morocco.
Ending that drought will require far more than individual brilliance. Egypt must function as a collective unit, rather than relying solely on Salah to carry the team on his shoulders.

Limited European Firepower
That challenge is complicated by the makeup of the squad. Beyond Mohamed Salah, only Omar Marmoush (Manchester City) and Mostafa Mohamed (FC Nantes) are currently playing in Europe’s top leagues.
The remainder of the group is drawn largely from Egypt’s traditional powerhouses: Al Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids FC, the reigning CAF Champions League winners. Domestic quality is undeniable, but questions remain about depth and consistency at the highest level.
Zimbabwe Arrive With Nothing to Lose
For Zimbabwe, AFCON promises to be a demanding tournament. Their squad is assembled from clubs spread across the globe, without a strong core in elite leagues.
Still, experience is not entirely lacking. The presence of Marvelous Nakamba of Luton Town provides leadership and balance for a team that arrives with minimal pressure — and everything to gain.
