Cameroon Looks to Finish the Window With a Perfect Record

Cameroon travels to Brazzaville with an opportunity to begin the AFCON 2027 Qualifiers with six points from a possible six.

The Indomitable Lions enjoyed a positive start by defeating Comoros 3-1 on the opening matchday of Group G. David Nyengue opened the scoring before halftime, while Bryan Mbeumo doubled the advantage shortly after the start of the second half.

Comoros responded through Warmed Omari, but Danny Namaso struck late to score the third goal and secure the first three points for Cameroon.

Now, the Cameroonian side faces its first road test of the qualifying campaign and will look to build on its strong start to remain at the top of the group.

Republic of the Congo Needs a Response at Home

The start was very different for Republic of the Congo.

The Red Devils began their road to AFCON 2027 with a 1-0 defeat against Namibia. After a scoreless first half, Bethuel Muzeu scored with a header in the 47th minute to secure all three points for the Brave Warriors.

Matchday 2 gives Republic of the Congo an immediate opportunity to respond, this time in front of its supporters at Stade Alphonse Massamba-Débat.

However, it will face a confident Cameroon side looking to establish an early advantage in the qualification race.

Cameroon and Namibia Lead Group G

After the opening matchday, Cameroon and Namibia share the top of Group G with three points, while Republic of the Congo and Comoros are still looking for their first points.

That situation adds even more importance to the match for the hosts. A second consecutive defeat would leave Republic of the Congo needing to make up ground when the qualifiers resume during the next international window.

Group G does not include any of the three AFCON 2027 host nations, meaning the top two teams will qualify directly for the tournament, which will be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
