Padel Vibes: The Excitement of Premier Padel Arrives in Tarragona
Tarragona experienced historic days with Premier Padel: stars like Mike Yanguas, Gemma Triay, and Juan Lebrón shined in an unforgettable tournament on the Catalan coast.
The city of Tarragona, famous for its Roman heritage and Mediterranean coast, transformed into the perfect stage for a new stop on the Premier Padel tour. For the first time, the circuit landed at the Palau d’Esports Catalunya, equipped with top-level panoramic courts, similar to those used in Rome and Paris.
Players like Mike Yanguas, ranked seventh in the FIP rankings, showcased talent and charisma, redefining the Drive position. Meanwhile, in the women’s draw, current number one Gemma Triay maintained her dominance, and Ari Sánchez expressed her excitement about playing in what she considers her "second home."
Human Stories and Historic Triumphs
The tournament not only delivered spectacular points but also very personal moments. Alex Ruiz, known as the “Captain America” of padel, spoke about the challenges of competing at the highest level while living with diabetes, even recalling an epilepsy episode suffered in Buenos Aires P1.
On another note, Juan Lebrón’s return from injury and his on-court partnership with Franco Stupaczuk was one of the most talked-about topics. Coach Carlos Pozzoni highlighted the player’s efforts to channel his temperament and perform at his best.
On the sports side, the final at Tarragona P1 was historic. The pair made up of Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay defeated Sánchez and Josémaría, bringing Argentina back to the top of the FIP rankings after 12 years. On the men’s side, Tapia and Coello won another title and solidified themselves as the second most winning duo in history, only behind Fernando Belasteguín and Juan Martínez Díaz.
