Antonelli Wins Monaco Grand Prix and Extends Championship Lead
At just 19 years old, Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to amaze the Formula 1 world. The Mercedes driver captured victory at the Monaco Grand Prix and extended his championship lead after a race filled with incidents and dramatic twists.
The 2026 Formula 1 season continues to have a clear protagonist. Andrea Kimi Antonelli once again proved why he is the biggest sensation on the grid by claiming victory at the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious and demanding races on the calendar.
The young Italian driver for Mercedes secured his fifth consecutive win of the season and strengthened his position at the top of the standings following a chaotic race that featured crashes, safety cars, a red flag, and a dramatic restart in the closing laps.
A Victory Built Under Pressure
The streets of Monte Carlo delivered an unpredictable spectacle. The race changed direction several times due to incidents throughout the second half of the event, forcing teams and drivers to constantly adjust their strategies.

Despite the pressure, Antonelli remained composed and capitalized on every restart to maintain control of the lead. Behind him, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton secured a valuable second-place finish for Ferrari, while Isack Hadjar of Red Bull completed the podium.
The result further confirms the remarkable form of the Italian driver, who continues to pile up victories in only his second season in Formula 1.
Hamilton Closes In, but Antonelli Remains in Control
Hamilton's performance allowed him to move into second place in the championship standings, overtaking George Russell, who endured a difficult day marked by penalties and finished outside the key points positions.
Following the Monaco Grand Prix, Antonelli now sits on 156 points and holds a 66-point advantage over the British Ferrari driver, a significant margin despite the season still being far from over.
Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri of McLaren finished fourth, followed by Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, who scored important points for Racing Bulls.
Difficult Weekend for the Spanish-Speaking Drivers
The race also brought mixed emotions for several Spanish-speaking competitors. Carlos Sainz of Williams retired after an accident that fortunately caused no injuries, while Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin crossed the line in eleventh place, recording his best result of the season.
Meanwhile, Sergio "Checo" Pérez of Cadillac finished tenth and could earn the American team's first point of the season if race officials uphold the final classification after ongoing investigations.
With the championship increasingly tilting in his favor, Antonelli will head to the Catalan Grand Prix as the driver to beat and with a lead that is beginning to firmly strengthen his hopes of capturing the Formula 1 world title.
