Rose Davies made history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by becoming the first woman ever to win both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the same edition of the Games.
The 26-year-old Australian claimed the 5,000m title on Friday at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow after an exciting duel with fellow Australian Jessica Hull.
A thrilling finish
The two Australians battled throughout the final lap, with Olympic 1,500m silver medalist Hull appearing ready to use her finishing speed to claim gold.
Davies, however, found another gear in the closing metres and crossed the finish line in 14:44.53, with Hull finishing second in 14:45.01.
A historic achievement
After winning the 10,000m on the opening day of the athletics program, Davies completed a historic distance double never before achieved by a woman at the Commonwealth Games.
She dropped to her knees in celebration after crossing the finish line, realizing the magnitude of her accomplishment.
"It was just pure grit in the end," Davies said.
"I thought I might be in trouble with Hull sitting on my shoulder and just gave it everything I had. I can't believe it.
"This week hasn't sunk in yet, but I'll definitely celebrate tonight."
