Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr.: Who Won, by Decision or KO, and Everything You Need to Know About the Fight
Jake Paul, the influencer-turned-pro-boxer, secured a clear but uneventful win over Julio César Chávez Jr. after ten rounds at cruiserweight. The fight, held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, ended in a unanimous decision for the American, with judges scoring it 99–91, 97–93, and 98–92. Despite the hype, the bout lacked excitement and failed to deliver fireworks.
With the win, Paul, 28, improves to 12–1 (7 KOs), while Chávez Jr., 39, who hadn’t fought since July 2023, drops to 54–7–1 (34 KOs). Though he’s the son of Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez, Chávez Jr. looked slow, unmotivated, and ineffective throughout most of the fight.
A fight to forget
Chávez Jr. started the fight showing some spark, landing a few body shots and wild rights. But his energy faded fast. From round two on, Paul dictated the pace, keeping distance with jabs and working the body, while the Mexican looked lost and hesitant.
As the rounds went on, the gap widened. Paul grew more confident—even dropping his hands at times—while Chávez Jr. showed sluggish reflexes and little offense. His lack of recent activity was obvious as he struggled to keep up with the younger, sharper opponent.
No surprises in the final rounds
The final frames followed the same pattern: Paul controlling the action with basic combos, and Chávez Jr. hoping for a miracle shot that never came. He did land a decent left in the ninth round, but it wasn’t enough to change the tide.
Even though Jake Paul got the win, just like he did against Mike Tyson in December, this fight raised more doubts than praise about his boxing credentials. The whole event felt more like a social media moment than a serious boxing showdown—proof that, in some corners of the sport, the show still matters more than the fight.
