Phoenix Suns End San Antonio Spurs’ Unbeaten Streak
The San Antonio Spurs’ perfect start ended abruptly in Phoenix, where the Suns’ scorching shooting and a rare quiet night from Victor Wembanyama resulted in a 130-118 loss.
San Antonio came into Sunday’s game riding a 5-0 wave, the best opening in franchise history, but the Suns wasted little time ending that run.
Phoenix stormed out early, building a double-digit advantage behind Devin Booker's orchestrating and a hot-shooting supporting cast. By halftime, the Suns had drained 11 threes and were up 70-52, a deficit San Antonio struggled to overcome even as they made brief runs late in the game.
The Spurs now sit at 5-1, forced to reset after a dream start.
Wembanyama Held in Check
Much of the credit for Phoenix’s win came from its energetic defensive focus on Victor Wembanyama. The rookie phenom — who had averaged over 30 points through the season's first five games — managed just nine points on 4-for-14 shooting.
Wembanyama turned the ball over six times and was unable to assert his usual dominance inside or out, with the Suns rotating defenders and swarming him on every touch.
Without Wembanyama’s typical scoring punch, San Antonio’s offense never found enough rhythm to match Phoenix’s firepower.
Booker's Command Performance and Suns’ Depth
Devin Booker starred with 28 points and 13 assists, leading an attack that saw six Suns score in double figures and the team hit nearly 58% of its shots.
Grayson Allen and Ryan Dunn each chipped in 17, while reserves Collin Gillespie and Royce O’Neale offered key bursts off the bench. The Suns’ deep arsenal overwhelmed a Spurs squad that also lost rookie Dylan Harper to injury midgame, stripping another option from their offense.
Phoenix left little doubt as it sealed the win with an 11-0 burst in the fourth quarter, putting a decisive stamp on the first blemish in San Antonio’s 2025-26 campaign.
