Brunson Stays Grounded: “The Series Is Back to 0-0”
Despite leading the NBA Finals 2-0, Jalen Brunson insists the Knicks must stay locked in and avoid any sense of complacency.
The New York Knicks moved one step closer to a long-awaited championship after edging the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the 2026 NBA Finals. Yet according to star guard Jalen Brunson, the series is far from over.
Speaking after the dramatic victory in San Antonio, Brunson stressed that the Knicks must approach Game 3 with the mindset that the series is starting from scratch. Despite winning both road games, he warned against becoming comfortable or satisfied with their current position.
“The mentality has to be 0-0,” Brunson said. “You can’t get comfortable. You can’t be satisfied with anything. You just have to keep moving forward.”
His comments reflect the mentality that has carried New York throughout a remarkable postseason run. The Knicks once again showed resilience in Game 2, surviving a furious late comeback attempt by San Antonio that included a stunning 14-0 run in the closing minutes.
Rather than panic, New York remained composed and executed in key moments to secure another narrow victory. Brunson praised his teammates for maintaining their focus under pressure, describing the team's composure as a defining trait of its success
The All-Star guard finished the contest with 20 points and delivered another strong performance when it mattered most. Even so, he refused to look ahead to the possibility of a championship celebration.
With the series now shifting to the iconic Madison Square Garden, the Knicks are just two wins away from ending a 53-year title drought. But if Brunson's message is any indication, New York's focus remains firmly on the next game rather than the trophy itself.
