The 33-year-old Sydneysider moved up 30 spots to No.108 after upsetting No.3 seed Flavio Cobilli 6-3 6-2 across 91 minutes, making him only the second man to reach multiple semi-finals at this ATP 250 event having advanced to the final previously in 2021.
Duckworth faced five break points on his way to victory, but saved all of them, and will next meet No.2 seed Daniil Medvedev for a place in the final.
The former No. 1 beat Fabian Marozsan 7-5 6-2 in their quarter-final, making this the third consecutive ATP Tour semi-final for the Russian.
“The first set was really tough, I had to save three set points,” Medvedev said.
“But I’m really happy with the way I played, especially after this moment, and I’m happy I managed to win. I served really well today, and I managed to step up my game when I needed to, so I hope I can continue playing this way.”
Duckworth hasn't been in a semi-final since his run to the showpiece here in 2021 and will break new ground this season should he manage to cause a second straigh upset.
