Hull seals Championship safety on goal difference
Hull City survived a nervous finish to secure its EFL Championship status by the skin of their teeth, a 1-1 draw at Portsmouth enough to finish just outside the dropzone above Luton Town on goal difference alone.
Matt Crooks's first-half effort for the Tigers was cancelled out by Pompey's Christian Saydee, forcing the visitors to cling on and hope for a helpful result in the Luton game.
That duly arrived after the Hatters lost 5-3 at West Bromwich Albion, ensuring it suffered a second straight relegation while Hull City lived to fight another season in England's second tier.
Hull won one less match than Luton across the season as a whole, claiming 12 victories to Luton's 13, but by scoring 14 more goals, the Tigers sealed their survival.
