Aussie Segecic scores vital winner for Portsmouth
Former Sydney FC star Adrian Segecic scored the winner as Portsmouth grabed a vital win in its relegation six-pointer against Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship.
The 21-year-old, who made the move to England last year, scored not long after the hour with a solid first-time finish to break the deadlock at Hillsborough to keep Norwich City in the bottom three by a point after the Canaries upset Wrexham 2-1 at The Racecourse Ground in their match.
Wednesday has yet to win at home, and after a devastating points deduction at the start of the season, the Owls remain rock bottom and miles off safety with minus-seven points.
Segecic almost forced a second for Pompey when his cross deflected off Terry Devlin, but the ball went over the bar.
But it mattaed not as John Mousinho's men held on for a first win of 2026.
"This is not an easy place to come and It was a difficult fixture for us to come and face and deal with, it was just a case of making sure we came away from here with three points," Mousinho said, before paying tribute to his makeshift Australian wide man.
"It was a great finish by Segs, who was playing out of position, but he took his chance when it came to him."
