Williams sisters reunited for Wimbledon doubles
Serena Williams will return to Wimbledon for the first time since 2022 after being awarded a wildcard to compete in the doubles event alongside sister Venus.
The 44-year-old made a surprise return to professional tennis last week when she won her opening doubles match at Queen's Club with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko.
Williams had not played professionally for four years after announcing she was "evolving away" from tennis following the 2022 US Open.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion revealed she wanted the opportunity to play in front of her two young daughters before making her comeback.
The Williams sisters are six-time Wimbledon doubles champions and lifted their most recent title together at the All England Club in 2016.
Despite speculation that Serena could seek a return to singles competition, she was not included among the wildcard recipients for the Wimbledon singles draw.
Without a ranking following her lengthy absence, Williams requires wildcard entries to compete at tour-level events.
The American won seven Wimbledon singles titles during her career and claimed the last of her 23 Grand Slam singles crowns at the 2017 Australian Open.
Her return at Queen's, 1,375 days after her previous professional match, attracted significant attention and offered an encouraging glimpse of her trademark power and serving ability.
Venus, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has played a limited schedule in recent seasons. The 45-year-old won a doubles match alongside Katie Boulter in Madrid earlier this year.
Elsewhere, three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov received wildcards for the men's singles draw.
