Zverev powers into Wimbledon last 16
French Open champion Alexander Zverev continued his impressive Wimbledon campaign with a straight-sets victory over Marcos Giron to book his place in the fourth round.
The second seed produced another assured display on Court One, defeating the American 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4 to move within one win of a first Wimbledon quarter-final.
Zverev, who captured the maiden Grand Slam title of his career at Roland Garros last month, has never progressed beyond the fourth round at the All England Club but is enjoying one of his strongest runs on grass.
The German will next face 13th seed Jiri Lehecka for a place in the quarter-finals.
Reflecting on his performance, Zverev praised his opponent while expressing confidence in his own form.
"He plays fantastic on grass. I knew I had to be 100 percent ready from the first point and I'm very happy to be through in straight sets," he said.
The 29-year-old also admitted his French Open triumph has given him renewed belief heading into the latter stages of Wimbledon.
"Winning in Paris, coming here with a title, it helps. It was my first one and I want to keep going."
"I feel different than last year. I feel like I play better tennis and have more confidence in important moments. I want to keep going and play more important matches."
