Chicago Fire complete signing of Robert Lewandowski
Chicago Fire have completed the signing of Poland captain Robert Lewandowski, with the veteran striker joining the Major League Soccer club on a deal through the 2027-28 campaign.
The 37-year-old arrives from Barcelona after helping the Catalan side win the La Liga title last season, bringing one of the most prolific goalscoring records in modern football to MLS.
Lewandowski has scored more than 700 senior goals for club and country during a glittering career that has included spells with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
"We set out to build a world-class club that inspires greatness, unites Chicago and wins championships," Fire head coach and director of football Gregg Berhalter said.
"Robert embodies those values and represents the standards this city deserves: a champion and a competitor.
"His arrival reinforces our ambition to compete for trophies and raises the standards for the club to heights worthy of this city."
Lewandowski joins a Chicago side sitting third in the Eastern Conference at the MLS break after collecting 26 points from their opening 14 matches.
The Poland captain leaves European football as one of the game's most decorated forwards, having won the UEFA Champions League, 10 Bundesliga titles, three La Liga crowns and the Best FIFA Men's Player award in both 2020 and 2021.
He scored 238 goals in 253 appearances for Bayern Munich before joining Barcelona in 2022, where he added three league titles.
Internationally, Lewandowski is Poland's all-time leading scorer with 89 goals in 167 appearances and now becomes the latest global star to make the move to Major League Soccer.
