Ligue 1 - Saint-Étienne 1 Brest 1 - Match Report
Saint-Étienne needed a late goal to rescue a draw with newly promoted Brest
Saint-Étienne needed a goal seven minutes from time to rescue a point against newly promoted Brest on Sunday afternoon. The hosts had the majority of the changes in the first half, with former Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy heading just wide with the game just nine minutes old. Against the run of play, Brest took the lead Julien Faussurier broke from right-back Julien Faussurier who found the bottom corner in first-half stoppage time.
Into the second half and Saint-Étienne stopper, Stéphane Ruffiern had to tip over Mathias Autret's long-range drive. The home side dominated chance and home debutant Denis Bouanga pounced on a defensive error and a lucky ricochet to score at the second time of asking. The result leaves Étienne in sixth, whilst new boys Brest are in twelfth place.
